“Stop hurting Canadians”: Wagantall slams 2024 federal budget

OTTAWA — Cathay Wagantall, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, has slammed the 2024 Liberal federal budget as “more of the same” that will only make life worse for her constituents and all Canadians.

“My message to Justin Trudeau couldn’t be clearer,”  said Wagantall.

“Stop hurting Canadians. Stop the out-of-control spending, deficits, inflation, and tax hikes that are forcing already-struggling Canadians over the edge.”

The Liberal government’s budget outlined $40 billion in new spending with no plans to balance the budget. The cost to service the Trudeau government’s debt has now reached over $54 billion, surpassing federal health care spending.

“Our country’s social programs and countless jobs are in danger due to his inflationary deficits,” noted Wagantall.

“He is amassing more debt than ever before, driving up the cost of everything we buy and keeping interest rates high. Enough is enough.”

Wagantall referred to specific demands that were made by the Conservatives in exchange for their support of the budget.

“They were simple, common sense requests in the best interests of all Canadians. Until we can form government and abolish the carbon tax for everyone, everywhere, we asked the Trudeau government to at least lift it for farmers who produce the food we buy.

“They were asked to address the housing crisis by requiring cities to permit more home building each year as a condition of receiving federal infrastructure money.

“We also wanted spending brought under control through a dollar-for-dollar rule, which would require the Liberals to find a dollar of savings for every new dollar of spending.”

Wagantall noted that all three requests were ignored by the Liberals and, as a result, the Conservative opposition will not support the budget.

“Trudeau isn’t worth the cost to any generation,” she said.

“It’s clear that his reckless approach will not stop until Conservatives can start governing with common sense for this country.”
